NYC to slow down the number of Uber and other FHV vehicles citing increased congestion and environmental worries

The for-hire vehicle fleet, which includes Uber and other black cars but not yellow or green taxis, has grown 63 percent since 2011. Over the past year, the city issued 2,000 new for-hire vehicle licenses each month, 64 per day. The surge has swelled the for-hire fleet from 38,000 to 63,000 vehicles since 2011. Taxi drivers ask lawmakers to put the brakes on Uber and Lyft - WRGB CBS6 - Top Stories

NYC Taxi drivers Trek to Albany along with New York Taxi Workers Alliance Executive Director Bhairavi Desai to let lawmakers know that Uber & Lyft and other TNCs should abide by same rules that they must abide by.  Some local restaurant owners, however talk of the need for better service in the upstate area and the easier access to customers that they would have with the TNCs.   Uber and Lyft were pressured in NYC to abide by regulations or be shut down. In other cities or for that matter upstate New York, they do not offer to follow local laws right away, and this is one of the reasons the NYC Taxi drivers made the 2 plus hour trek to Albany.
